One of the more popular starting points along the road to the MCSE, the Networking Essentials exam cannot be taken for granted. You'll be required to display a fair amount of knowledge on a wide variety of topics including LAN and WAN media, the OSI reference model, the IEEE 802 Standards, protocol suites, hardware functions and configuration, network topologies, and numerous other topics. Even for the seasoned Network Engineer or Administrator, this exam can be a bear! There is an abundance of specific (almost obscure) information that most of us won't deal with on a daily basis. As with most of the exams, there is also an appreciable amount of "Microsoft-specific" information that you'll be required to know. Don't take this exam lightly. If you do nothing else to prepare for this exam, check out Wang Wei's Networking Essentials Study Guide at www.ftq.com. In my opinion, Wang is one of the most knowledgeable (and widely recognized) experts on the basics of networking and the Microsoft Networking Essentials exam. If Wang can't give you the answer, the question won't be on the test.
Below you'll find my notes for the Networking Essentials exam. Combine them with Wang's notes and one of the books above, and you'll have everything you need to pass this exam. The MCP Cache Study Guides for Exam 70-058 The MCP Cache Study Questions and Practice Tests for Exam 70-058
