Many of my colleagues recommend this exam as the best starting point. It is a valid argument. The NT Server exam also introduces many "basic" concepts that are prerequisite to developing a command of NT. Topics covered on this exam include fault tolerance (including RAID), security and auditing, performance monitoring, roles of the server in an NT domain, client administration, internetworking with Novell, Macintosh, and Unix environments, migration from Novell environments, account administration, and many other important topics. As mentioned earlier, much of the content of this exam is closely tied to the Workstation and Server in the Enterprise exams. While the Workstation exam is not a prerequisite for writing this test, my personal opinion is that a solid understanding of the Workstation OS will lead you to many correct answers on this exam. In contrast, while it is certainly not impossible to pass the Server in the Enterprise exam without having already passed Server, I urge you to have a thorough understanding of the topics addressed on the Server exam before attempting Server in the Enterprise. There is a fairly obvious reason why Server in the Enterprise is commonly referred to as "Advanced Server."

Again, my primary recommendation for a supplemental study guide is the Sybex MCSE Test Success: Microsoft NT Server 4.0 book (Network Press). I have no affiliation with Sybex either, (and  have found other quality books that have equal merit), they were my primary study aid, and got me through every exam. Available from Amazon.com, it is also packed with great sample questions and concise information. Go buy the book, then grab my study notes below and you'll have a solid foundation for this exam.

Remember what we discussed earlier about possible sources for the exam material? No NT Engineer or Administrator is complete without the Microsoft NT Resource Kit (Microsoft Press). Where else? Amazon.com!

Before we move on to Server in the Enterprise, there is one more book that (in my opinion) is one of the best available on NT Server. Windows NT Server 4 Professional Reference, Second Edition by Karanjit S. Siyan, Ph. D. (New Riders Press) is totally complete. Though somewhat expensive, Dr. Siyan's book lives up to its billing as the "Authoritative solution for Windows NT Server." A solid investment that you'll turn to for years to come.
